#Greens’ Shoebridge on #Iran strikes: ‘#Labor knows it’s illegal’ Greens senator #DavidShoebridge has accused Labor, the #Coalition and #OneNation of being the “three war parties”, and criticised the government for “rushing” to back the strikes on Iran. Speaking on his amendment to the Coalition’s motion, Shoebridge doesn’t hold back, saying the three parties have “never seen an attack by #DonaldTrump, an attack by #BenjaminNetanyahu, that they haven’t wanted to back in and support”. “We have seen the #Albanese Labor government rush to be the first country in the world to back in Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu’s latest #illegalwar, literally rushing to back in a war that Labor knows is in #grossbreach of #internationallaw. There’s a reason that the foreign minister has refused to discuss, even discuss, whether or not this war is illegal. What we’ve seen in MN with middle class white folks putting themselves in harms way to protect their neighbors shows the spirit of what should serve as our path forward. The extension of empathy into action as solidarity. And going forward this is what we need not just in resisting fascism but in all of our efforts.

We need to dig deep for broad #solidarity in recognition that our real power comes from solidarity across all our superficial differences. Our politics should not be based on focus groups, calculations, establishment strategy but simply the value and principle of solidarity in service to all of us, the 99% that is the working class.

  • Universal Healthcare
  • Universal Basic Income
  • Opening the electoral process to multiple parties
  • Building of our movement outside of the political process: Workers in workplaces and community folk in neighborhoods building #labor organizing, mutual aid, self defense and lived, grassroots #democracy at the street level.

Proud to announce that my upcoming #nonfiction #picturebook is This Is Your Fight! Genora Johnson and the Flint Sit-Down Strike, to be published by Harper Collins next year. And it's being illustrated by The Brave Union (artists Kevin and Kristen Howdeshell)! Yesterday marked the anniversary of the end of the 1936-37 strike- one of the most successful in American history. Workers occupied GM factories in Flint and persuaded the automaker to recognize the UAW.
