Key heuristic vulnerabilities include:
Availability Heuristic: People overestimate the probability of events that are easily remembered, such as vivid media reports or recent experiences, rather than relying on statistical evidence.
Representativeness Heuristic: Individuals categorize people or situations based on how closely they resemble a mental prototype, often ignoring base rates and statistical probabilities.
Anchoring and Adjustment: A heavy reliance on the first piece of information received (the “anchor”) when making decisions, with insufficient adjustments for subsequent information.
Confirmation Bias: The tendency to seek, interpret, and focus on information that confirms existing beliefs while ignoring contradictory evidence.

Without being educationally steeped in these expoitations, everyone just rolls their eyes and thinks “Yeah, that doesn’t apply to me. I’m smarter than that.” Which, in itself is the “fundamental attribution error” heuristic at play.
One can just assume that any person who isn’t willing to acknowledge the foregoing has, as Zach de la Rocha put it so succinctly “A bullet in their head.”
