Stop consuming #CapitalistPropaganda. Find reliable sources of information. If you don't understand the following in depth ... then you've got #ABulletInYourHead
**Heuristic vulnerabilities are systematic errors in judgment resulting from the mind’s reliance on mental shortcuts (heuristics) to make fast, efficient decisions under uncertainty. While these “rules of thumb” are adaptive and save cognitive energy, they often lead to suboptimal, irrational, or biased decisions by ignoring critical information.
Key heuristic vulnerabilities include:
Availability Heuristic: People overestimate the probability of events that are easily remembered, such as vivid media reports or recent experiences, rather than relying on statistical evidence.
Representativeness Heuristic: Individuals categorize people or situations based on how closely they resemble a mental prototype, often ignoring base rates and statistical probabilities.
Anchoring and Adjustment: A heavy reliance on the first piece of information received (the “anchor”) when making decisions, with insufficient adjustments for subsequent information.
Confirmation Bias: The tendency to seek, interpret, and focus on information that confirms existing beliefs while ignoring contradictory evidence.
Affect Heuristic: Allowing current emotions, moods, or “gut feelings” to dictate decisions, particularly in risk assessment (e.g., perceiving high-benefit items as low-risk).
Fundamental Attribution Error: A tendency to attribute others’ behaviors to internal, personality-based factors rather than situational factors.
Satisficing: Selecting the first option that meets a minimum threshold of criteria rather than spending time to find the optimal solution. **
Without being educationally steeped in these expoitations, everyone just rolls their eyes and thinks “Yeah, that doesn’t apply to me. I’m smarter than that.” Which, in itself is the “fundamental attribution error” heuristic at play.
One can just assume that any person who isn’t willing to acknowledge the foregoing has, as Zach de la Rocha put it so succinctly “A bullet in their head.”
