Dear Liberal partisans: “we can’t do anything about this chaos Trump is creating” is a bad look, and also completely untrue and a cop out.

Things you can do *today*
1) food and gas price controls
2) food and gas rebates/grants
3) EV, solar and wind mandates and grants
4) direct investment in electrification of fossil fuel transport and infrastructure, today. Move all existing projects on the books up to start asap.

These are just some of the things that could directly and immediately help Canadians through #theAmericanFascists oil wars.

Acting like it is 1975 and we just have to stick it out because there is no alternative is a cop out and makes you complicit.

Either we are different, or we are along for the sick ride. Which would you prefer?

The amount of disinformation, deep fakes, and other misdirection I hear about from friends and relatives that they get from traditional social media is insane.

They have to tell me about it because I am almost always completely unaware, even though I am “on the Internet” just as much if not more than them.

This is a deep advantage of using Mastodon/the Fediverse right now. And it is not because fake stuff doesn’t exist here.

It is just not automatically sent to me by every owner, bot, and user. And if it is, it is generally swatted down hard.

When I was researching and then pursuing obtaining my Spanish citizenship, I came to realize that citizenship laws are incredibly varied and changeable. They'll change with the political winds, for good and bad!

It looks like Canada has gone a little against the grain and opened up its citizenship requirements!

Now anyone with a proveable ancestral connection to Canada can apply, not just one generation back! This is even better than Spain “Historical Memory" changes that are now slowly expiring!

It would be a tragic, horrible irony if the way we got to a renewable energy future is by oil soaked countries and their genocidal, idiotic leaders and hangers on destroying themselves in a final desperate act to secure the entire thing for themselves.

But that would also be entirely human.

We need to have a long and honest talk with our Albertan and other Canadian oil friends and convince them that we need to get out of this sphere as fast as possible for our own safety.

It's official! This Sunday will be the last "leap forward" in BC!

As of next November, the Vancouver time zone in British Columbia, Canada will be referred to as "Pacific Time" and will be -7GMT permanently. (same as Yukon Territory which did this 2 years ago)

The presser was pretty cute actually. They had kids with little clocks, and they danced.

I would have preferred staying at Standard Time, but this will be ok too. It's interesting that Premier Eby made a point of (gently, as there were kids) insisting the delay of 6 years since the overwhelming survey response from British Columbians to eliminate the time change was due to waiting for the US West Coast states to do the same.

Now, BC has decided to push, and to lead by example.

Huh… ICBC (the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia - BC's public auto-insurance corp) sent out an email explaining the rules and best practices for using a roundabout.

We're getting a new roundabout on an important intersection of Highway 4 in #PortAlberni. They're building it now at Hwy4 and Beaver Creek Road. Quite the project!

This is a handy primer/reminder on how to use roundabouts. Most people around here seem either clueless or terrified of them. lol

Really good article about the “n word" uttered at Michael B Jordan in the BAFTAs last night and why tourette's is not a valid excuse or reason, individually, or societally.

"Who taught him the N-word? Where did he hear it? How often was it circulating in his world? How often does it still circulate in his world? In what tone? In what context? These are legit sociological questions.

Even with his disability, Davidson is still a white man who knows that word. Tourette’s may explain the release, but it does not explain the racial architecture that made that word available to him. Disability does not override the social world in which someone was raised. And it does not place anyone outside the history of race. And while the utterance may have been involuntary, the impact was not, and it does not erase responsibility for the harm that lands.”

If you read anything today about the #TumblerRidge shooting, please let it be this. From the mother of a child fighting for her life in BC Children's Hospital:

“Edmonds says she was friends with Strang and used to babysit the shooter — 18-year-old Jesse Van Rootselaar — as a child.

Edmonds told CBC News she weeps for all the people affected by the tragedy that unfolded in Tumbler Ridge, including Strang.

Edmonds says she watched the single mother, who she said worked long shifts at a nearby mine, fight to help her child.

Edmonds says at one point, Van Rootselaar tried to light a mattress on fire "and burn the house down." She said the teen had been hospitalized several times with mental health issues.

"People are trying to politicize what this is about," Edmonds said "It's not about guns. It's not about [being trans] ... It's about mental health. It's about a lack of resources."

"[Strang] really — I truly believe that in her heart — did everything she could to try to help … I know that she struggled."

Some really good news.
A new university will be built in Arviat, Nunavut, on the western shores of Hudson’s Bay, by 2030. It will be by and for Inuit peoples and all to learn the culture and language of the North and for people in the North to obtain post-secondary education in their language.

We need a much stronger voice than Mark Carney's to fight for Canada and Canadians. Carney and others are quietly appeasing and cajoling the separatists as if they will change their mind. I was one of those people who grew up with frozen orange juice in the freezer. I might still have one last can in my freezer right now. I noticed it was gone from freezer section at my local store yesterday. There seems to be a lot of 'mystery' about why people stopped buying it… once again, the media just takes what the press release says and doesn't talk to anyone. The reason? It got expensive! The whole point of the stuff is you could buy 5 cans for a dollar and keep it in your freezer and have orange juice for two weeks.
